Handbook for MLC Families
School Picnics
During the first month of school our entire school community takes the day off for a picnic. We take this time to rekindle friendships after the summer break and to welcome new students and families into our community. Again in June, usually the last day of school, we picnic in celebration of the year's accomplishments and the summer to come.Halloween
Halloween is a big event at MLC. Costumes are welcome and most everyone wears one. Spooky activities in the classrooms, a costume parade and a maze in the gym are all part of the festivities. Solstice
Prior to school closing for the winter break, we all gather to celebrate the winter Solstice. Students plan and present poems, songs, dances and a pageant to a crowded audience of current and former members of our community. Steeped in tradition, this is a warm and sharing time for all.Renaissance Faire
The Renaissance Faire is a celebration of earlier times planned and carried out by parents and guardians. The stocks, archery, dunk tank, costumes, music, games and activity booths are all part of this after school activity.Talent Show/Cabaret
We have so much talent in our community we now have two opportunities for students to perform. Our Talent show is for students who have practiced and accomplished talents ready for public performance. Our Cabaret features acts in development and those who just want to have a chance to "perform".Egg Drop
Egg Drop is a spring tradition at MLC and an all-school event. Everyone is encouraged to become involved by inventing a method of dropping a raw egg from the MLC roof without breaking. Awards are given in various categories. PSU engineering students take heed.Project Days
Each spring, usually the first week of June, the entire school will take a break from our usual program to stop and do something different. These activities are likely to be team based and to take classes or groups of students out into the community for a variety of fun and fascinating activities. Last year, among other things, our students attended plays in Ashland, camped at Lost Lake, hunted for Sasquatch, participated in field day and spent time at OMSI and Oaks Park.
